Talk on women in biomedical careers set April 6 3:17 p.m., March 28, 2006--Vivian W. Pinn, associate director for research on women's health at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and director of the Office of Research on Women's Health at NIH since 1991, will be this year's guest speaker at UD's Women of Excellence Lecture, set for 4 p.m., Thursday, April 6, in Multipurpose Room A of the Trabant University Center. Dr. Pinn's talk, Perspectives on Opportunities and Challenges in Technical Fields: Women in Biomedical Careers, will shed light on the scientific community's shifting views of women employed in traditionally male-dominated fields. Pinn received her medical degree from the University of Virginia and has held appointments at Tufts and Howard universities. She has long been active in promoting opportunities for women and minorities in the fields of science, clinical research and medical technology. Now in its sixth year, the lecture series focuses on gender equality issues in the workplace and is sponsored by UD's Commission on the Status of Women. The event is free and open to the public, and a reception will follow the lecture. For more information, call (302) 831-8063. |
