LaSalle outscores Hens in baseball slugfest

Alex Buchholz
9:07 a.m., March 23, 2006--Host LaSalle University overcame an early deficit to defeat the University of Delaware 11-8 in a baseball game played Wednesday afternoon in Philadelphia.

The Fightin' Blue Hens took an early 5-3 lead but LaSalle rallied with a seven-run fourth inning and added an insurance run in the fifth.

UD had a big game from freshman Alex Buchholz, the reigning Colonial Athletic Association rookie of the week who had three hits, including a home run. Buchholz drove in three runs and also scored three runs. Leftfielder Bryan Hagerich had a pair of hits, including a home run, and also drove in three runs. Starting pitcher Steve Miklas took the loss.

With the loss, the Hens fell to 10-7. After six straight road games, they will return home to the friendly confines of Bob Hannah Stadium for a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series against Northeastern University this weekend. The teams will meet at 3 p.m., Friday, March 24, and at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 25, and Sunday, March 26. Northeastern is 6-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
