James Madison sweeps CAA baseball series

Alex Buchholz
11:18 a.m., March 20, 2006--The host James Madison University baseball team, which is ranked No. 30 in the nation, swept the University of Delaware in a three-game Colonial Athletic Association weekend series.

The Fightin' Blue Hens fell 15-5 on Friday, 6-5 on Saturday and 10-8 on Sunday and are now 9-6 overall and 0-3 in the conference. The Hens will return to action with a game at Lehigh University in the opening round of the Liberty Bell Tournament at 3 p.m., Tuesday, March 21.

UD will play at LaSalle University at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 22, and will host a CAA weekend series against Northeastern University on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 24-26, at Bob Hannah Stadium.

In Friday's loss, the Hens took a pounding but got solo home runs from Todd Davison, Bryan Hagerich, Brandon Menchaca and Scott Shockley.

On Saturday, UD took an early 4-0 lead but succumbed as James Madison had a four-run seventh inning and scored the game winner with two outs in the ninth. UD freshman third baseman Alex Buchholz hit three home runs, tying the school record. He drove in four runs and scored three.

On Sunday, James Madison bolted to a 7-0 lead and a late UD rally could not overcome the Dukes. Ryan Jablonski had a home run for the Hens, and Buchholz, Davison and Menchaca had two hits apiece.
