The Fightin' Blue Hens are now 5-1 as they prepare to host Rider University at noon, Wednesday, March 8, and Marist College on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 10-12.

UD won the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader 8-7 in 10 innings on a hit by Alex Buchholz that scored centerfielder Brandon Menchaca, who had reached on a walk. Billy Harris struck out the only batter he faced to earn the win for the Hens. Starter Mike McGuire allowed two runs and struck out six in three innings of work.

UD won the second game 6-2, breaking it open with a three-run fourth inning. Menchaca reached on a infield hit and scored on a two-out single by Brent Rogers, who in turn scored on a triple by Buchholz. Todd Davison singled home Buchholz to extend the lead to 5-2. Buchholz put the game away with a home run in the sixth. Matt Heppner worked 3.1 innings to pick up the win.

Sunday's game was a slugfest, with the Hens overcoming an early five-run deficit to win 19-12. Menchaca had four hits in five trips to the plate, including a double and a triple, and both Davison and freshman catcher Bill Merkler hit home runs. First baseman Dan Kozek had three hits, including a pair of doubles. Todd Ozog worked six innings to earn the win, and Harris picked up a save.
