East Asian Studies speaker series set 11:48 a.m., March 24, 2006--UD's East Asian Studies Program will host four speakers in its spring series, East Asia in a Globalizing World: Exploring Local-Global Connections. The series is funded by a Title VI Grant awarded to the East Asian Studies Program from the U.S. Department of Education. On Monday, April 3, Bernd Martin of Albert-Ludwigs-Universitat will give a lecture on East Asian Security Since the Vietnam War. The lecture will be held from 7:30-9:30 p.m. in 204 Kirkbride Hall. On Thursday, April 13, Bridget Welsh of Johns Hopkins University will give a lecture titled, From Avian Flu to Trafficking: Human Insecurity and Security in Southeast Asia. The lecture will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. in 103 Gore Hall. On Wednesday, April 26, Ian Condry of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology will discuss Anime Fans and the Copyright Wars: Hip-Hop Samurai and Online Piracy? The lecture will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. in 103 Gore Hall. On Monday, May 1, the keynote speaker of the series, Wang Gungwu of the National University of Singapore will give a lecture on "Nation States in East and Southeast Asia." Gungwu is a renowned scholar and historian of China-Southeast Asian relations. The lecture will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. in 116 Gore Hall. The series will continue during the next academic year.
