UD women's basketball to face Pitt in WNIT

UD Head Coach Tina Martin leads the Hens into WNIT postseason play.
9:26 a.m., March 14, 2006--The University of Delaware women's basketball team has received a bid to the Women's National Invitation Tournament, where it will travel to face the University of Pittsburgh on Saturday, March 18. Tip-off will be at 2 p.m.

The Fightin' Blue Hens are 22-7 and Pitt, a member of the Big East Conference, is 19-10 entering the WNIT. The winner of Saturday's game will meet either the University of Mississippi or the University of Northern Iowa or Kansas University, which will meet in a preliminary game to determine who will face Ole Miss.

UD, which is led by Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year Tyresa Smith, will be making its fifth postseason appearance in the last six seasons, including an NCAA championship tournament appearance in 2001. The Hens dropped a 48-42 decision to St. John's in the first round of the 2005 WNIT tournament.

Pitt is led by All-Big East selection Marcedes Walker, a 6-foot, 3-inch center who averages 17.2 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
