4:32 p.m., June 2, 2006--Jane Ann Shumaker, 50, died in an automobile accident Dec. 19. Mrs. Shumaker, who worked as a supplemental professional in UD's Center for Disability Studies.
Born in Philipsburg, Pa., she spent time in Ventura, Calif., before returning to Philipsburg to graduate from high school. Mrs. Shumaker graduated from Penn State with a teaching degree in special education.
Mrs. Shumaker and her family moved to Delaware in 1989, where she worked as a homebound teacher, a para-professional at McKean High School, at the Western YMCA, and most recently for the Delaware Autism Program. She also was working online to earn a master's degree in library science.
When she wasn't helping others, she loved going to Disneyworld, especially Magic Kingdom, and riding roller coasters.
Mrs. Shumaker was a devoted mother to her sons Jonathan and Matthew Wickert, and will be greatly mourned by them. Survivors also include husband, Craig B. Shumaker; stepchildren, Adam, Allison and Brad Shumaker; special friends, Debby and Rhonda; and many great friends.
A funeral service was held at the McCrery Memorial Chapel, in Wilmington.
