Charles D. Bratton
 

4:05 p.m., June 2, 2006--Charles D. Bratton, of Newport, died Dec. 2. He was 79.

Mr. Bratton, a part-time employee at the Bob Carpenter Center, was a Navy veteran and served in the Merchant Marine during WWII. He was a lifetime member of Peniel United Methodist Church, Newport, where he was involved in the choir and the Methodist Men.

He also was a member of the Newark Deltones barbershop chorus, and past master of Ionic Masonic Lodge #31 AF&AM. Mr. Bratton loved bowling, horses, automobiles, singing and his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lillian J. Bratton; sons, Charles D. Bratton Jr. and wife, Sandra, of Middletown and William E. Bratton and wife, Kathy, of Atglen, Pa; brother, Harry "Buddy” Bratton and wife, Betty, of Sherwood Park and grandchildren, Michael, Connie, and Christina.

A funeral service was held at Dec. 7, at Peniel United Methodist Church. Interment was in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.

The family suggests contributions in Mr. Bratton's memory be made to Peniel United Methodist Church, 115 East Market Street, Newport, DE 19804.

Subscribe to UDaily Ms. Carlson worked in the Winterthur's scientific research and analysis laboratory for nearly 30 years, retiring in 2003 as senior scientist and head of the laboratory. During her tenure at Winterthur, she also served as adjunct faculty for the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program In Art Conservation, authored or co-authored more than 30 technical publications, lectured nationally and internationally, and organized several international short courses. She was a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Institute for Art Conservation, and the Infrared and Raman User's Group.

Ms. Carlson was an active member of Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church. She sang in the Chancel Choir for more than 38 years, was in the Bell Choir for many years, assisted with the Children's Choir, taught Sunday school, served on the Personnel and Worship Committees and was a Deacon. In the community, she was a longtime member of the University Women's Literary Society

Survivors include her husband, Norman; sons Andrew M. Carlson and Neil A. Carlson; mother, Eleanor M. Hickey; sister, Marcia H. Hastings; brother, Warren M. Hickey; and many cousins, an uncle and aunt.

A memorial service was held on April 23 at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church.
