Prof. Vivian Klaff dies 6:23 p.m., Jan. 19, 2006--Vivian Z. Klaff, professor emeritus of sociology and director of the Frank and Yetta Chaiken Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Delaware, died on Saturday, Jan. 14. A member of the UD faculty since 1977, Dr. Klaff conducted research on the social demography of religions, specifically the study of the demographic characteristics of the American Jewish populations. A past chair of Hillel at UD, Dr. Klaff received many grants and awards and was active in several professional organizations, including the Population Association of America, the American Sociological Association and the Association of Jewish Studies.
