Prof to speak at Huntington’s Disease benefit

8:57 a.m., Jan. 27, 2006--Eric Kmiec, UD professor of biological sciences and director of the Laboratory of Genetic Medicine and Genomics, will speak at the Delaware Affiliate of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America’s (DE HDSA) first Celebration of Hope Gala, beginning with a reception and silent auction at 6 p.m, dinner at 7 p.m., followed by a program, on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Du Pont Country Club in Wilmington.

The event honors Dr. Nicholas Petrelli, director of the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center at Christiana Hospital. Kmeic, who serves on the DE HDSA board, will speak briefly about his research related to Huntington’s Disease and introduce Petrelli.

Huntington’s Disease is an inherited, progressively degenerative brain disorder that results in a loss of mental faculties and physical control. DE HDSA provides support services to local families coping with the disease and funds research in the state.

Cost for individuals is $110, and there are different levels of sponsorships available. For more information and for tickets and sponsorships, contact the HDSA Mid-Atlantic regional office at (410) 467-5388 by Wednesday, Feb. 1.
