Nancy Targett, dean of the College of Marine Studies, was quoted in a Jan. 13 Cape Gazette story on the arrival of the new Research Vessel Hugh R. Sharp at its berth at UD’s campus in Lewes.

J.A. Leo Lemay, Winterthur Professor of English, was quoted in a Jan. 13 News Journal story about Benjamin Franklin. Lemay is writing a comprehensive biography titled The Life of Benjamin Franklin, and the first two volumes were published in November by the University of Pennsylvania Press.

Thomas Fernsler, associate policy scientist in the Mathematics and Science Education Resource Center who is also known as Dr. 13, was quoted in a Jan. 13 Newark (N.J.) Star-Ledger story about superstitions surrounding Friday the 13th.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair in Corporate Governance and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in two stories in the Jan. 12 issue of the Washington Post, one concerning turmoil at Integral Systems and the other about changes in the executive structure at Rowe. Elson also was quoted in a January/February Corporate Board Member story about corporate fairness opinions, in a Jan. 2 Chicago Tribune story about Enron court proceedings and in a Dec. 29 USA Today story about corporate earnings restatements.

Figure skaters who train at the University of Delaware have been in the news, as UD has sent a 31-member team to the 2006 State Farm U.S. Figure Skating Championships in St. Louis. Defending national bronze medalist Kimmie Meissner was featured on the front page of the Jan. 11 issue of USA Today, in stories in the Jan. 5 and Jan. 12 News Journal, and in the Jan. 12 Philadelphia Inquirer. Pair skaters Tiffany Scott and Rusty Fein were featured in the Jan. 11 News Journal, and ladies singles skater Christine Zukowski was featured in a column in the Jan. 6 Philadelphia Daily News.

James O’Neill, professor of economics and director of the Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship, was quoted in a Jan. 12 News Journal story about the impact of the Bank of America takeover of MBNA.

Ron Ludington, director of UD’s Ice Skating Science Development Center, was quoted in a Jan. 8 News Journal story on the success of the center and the emergence of the state as a figure skating center.

Marianne Carter, director of the UD Employee Wellness Center, was quoted in a Jan. 3 News Journal story on New Year’s resolutions to drop weight.

Thomas Pauly, professor of English, was highlighted in the Jan. 1 issue of The New York Times Book Review for his new work Zane Grey: His Life, His Adventures, His Women.

University of Delaware students Meredith Grabek and Sania Mirza were featured on the national Hillel news web site on Dec. 27 for joint efforts by UD Hillel and the campus Muslim Students’ Association to assist with Pakistani earthquake relief.

Meryl Gardner, associate professor of business administration, was quoted in a Dec. 23 News Journal story about how Delawareans were waiting until later in the shopping season to purchase gifts for the holidays.
