Joyce Hastings named HR Liaison of the quarter
Hastings was unaware she had been chosen when she came to work Monday morning to find a bouquet of flowers sitting on her desk. I was totally overwhelmed and feel very honored and very special, she said. Hastings, who retired from UD on Jan. 31 after 24 years of service, is working for Admissions on a temporary basis until her position is filled. Before becoming HR liaison for Admissions, she served in that capacity for the University Honors Program. She began her career at UD in 1981 as a secretary in the Computing Center and has been with Admissions since 1991. Marjorie Hingston, assistant director of Admissions, nominated Hastings. Joyce Hastings has been an outstanding HR liaison in the Admissions office. Joyce has been known to stay late and start early when payroll deadlines are close. This office is a very busy one, with lots of student employees. Joyce does an excellent job in keeping things in order and on time. She is very deserving of this honor. In her capacity as HR liaison, Hastings is the timekeeper for all Admissions employees and completes and submits all paperwork for several hundred new hires each year and for employees who have been reclassified, promoted or transferred. She maintains hire and termination records and the Admissions telephone directory. She serves as liaison for full-time employees and students who work in Admissions. Hastings said now that she's retired and when Admissions fills her position, she and her husband will travel, and she will have more time to paint, do crafts and volunteer.
