Beethoven sonata cycle concert Sunday 4:50 p.m., Feb. 22, 2006--UD's Department of Music will present faculty cellist Lawrence Stomberg with guest pianist Jonathan Faiman in the second installment of performances of the complete works for cello and piano by Beethoven, at 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 26, in the Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building. The concert will feature Beethoven's final three cello-piano sonatas and a set of variations. These last works show a fully matured Beethoven at the height of his compositional power. Faiman and Stomberg have been performing together for more than 20 years. They began performing together as undergraduates at Rice University. This marks the second concert that Stomberg and Faiman have performed in this series at UD. Stomberg came to the University from Oklahoma where he was assistant principal cellist in the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and assistant professor of cello at Oklahoma State University. He is a founding member of many musical ensembles and performs as a soloist and chamber musician across the country. Faiman, a critically acclaimed pianist, has been described in The New York Times as a pianist with the kind of technique that affords remarkable clarity even in the speediest lines. Faiman has performed concertos, solo recitals, and chamber music concerts with the Ambrosia Trio and other musicians throughout North America and in Israel. He is a member of the Locrian Chamber Players and the Actors Company Theatre and his solo CD, Hie Up the Mountain, was released to critical acclaim. Admission to the concert is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and $3 for students. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at the Trabant or Bob Carpenter box offices.
