Craig Cary, professor of marine studies, was quoted in a Dec. 6 Associated Press story about super-hot, mineral-rich hydrothermal vents found in the southern Atlantic, Indian and Arctic oceans. Debra Hess Norris, Henry Francis du Pont Chair in Fine Arts, was quoted in a Dec. 6 Associated Press story about the need for better preservation of artifacts in museums nationwide. "There is an urgent need for a better environment for collections of all kinds," Norris, who also is chairperson of the conservation advocacy group Heritage Preservation, said. Louis Hirsh, director of admissions, was quoted in a Dec. 6 Asbury Park (N.J.) Press story about student preparation at premiere high schools, such as High Technology High School in Middletown, N.J. Eric Kmiec, professor of biological sciences, was quoted in a Dec. 6 News Journal story about Huntingtons disease. Kmiec is working to develop treatments for people with Huntingtons. Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair in Corporate Governance and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a Dec. 5 Wall Street Journal story about the General Motors board of directors and in a Nov. 25 Wall Street Journal story concerning a New York Stock Exchange decision to allow Sovereign Bancorp to proceed with a stock sale deal without shareholder approval. Also, he was quoted in a Dec. 1 New York Times story about Time Warner, a Nov. 30 Washington Post story about the Six Flags board, and a Nov. 25 Reuters story concerning new alliances that are likely to challenge corporate boards at annual meetings next spring. The Paul Jones Collection exhibition at Spelman College was featured in the November issue of Sky, the in-flight magazine of Delta Airlines. The exhibition A Century of African American Art: The Paul R. Jones Collection originated at UD, the home of the collection. It is now on view at Spelman College in Atlanta and next will travel to Montana State University. Thomas Leitch and Ben Yagoda, professors of English, were quoted in a Nov. 28 News Journal story about copyright and the Google digital bookshelf. Kathleen Turkel, assistant professor of womens studies, was quoted in a Nov. 27 News Journal story about maternity leave. Richard Garvine, Maxwell P. and Mildred H. Harrington Professor of Marine Studies, was quoted in a Nov. 26 News Journal story about the first anniversary of the Athos I oil spill on the Delaware River. David P. Roselle, UD president, was quoted in a Nov. 25 News Journal story about Delawares standing as the leading public university in terms of the percentage of students who participate in study abroad programs. The story also quotes Thomas Lathrop, professor of foreign languages and literatures. Marion Bernard-Amos, study abroad coordinator, was cited in a Nov. 25 News Journal story about the role of study abroad in making the United States a safer place. Joseph Pika, professor of political science and international relations, was quoted in a Nov. 24 News Journal story about a decision by Gov. Ruth Ann Minner to review health care procedures in the state prison system. Alumni Susan Stroman, a 1976 UD graduate who has taken Broadway by storm, was featured in a Dec. 5 NBC News Dateline story about her motion picture directorial debut with the Mel Brooks classic The Producers, which stars Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick and Uma Thurman. Mike Adams, a former UD football captain now playing defensive back with the San Francisco 49ers, was featured in stories in the Nov. 24 Passaic (N.J.)
