Fulbright scholars are coming and going

4:46 p.m., Dec. 1, 2005--Three UD faculty members have been awarded 2005-06 Fulbright Scholar Program grants to lecture and carry out research abroad, and three foreign scholars have been awarded grants to teach and carry out research at the University of Delaware.

The three faculty receiving grants are

Sally Bould, professor emeritus of sociology, who will carry out research on “Adequacy and Equity in Public Pensions for Women” at the Catholic University of Louvain, in Louvain-La-Neuve, Belgium, from April-July 2006;
William J. Idsardi, formerly associate professor and chairperson of linguistics at UD and now a faculty member at the University of Maryland, who has a distinguished lectureship and will talk on "Canadian Raising: The Cognitive Science of Dialects" at York University in Toronto, from January-May 2006; and
Alexander Settles, assistant policy scientist in UD’s Institute for Public Administration, who is currently lecturing on “Improving Public Administration Through the Application of Information and Communication Technologies” at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, with his fellowship running from September 2005-July 2006.

Visiting scholars coming to UD include:

Wei-li Lee, an engineer with Pingtung Environmental Protection Bureau in Pingtung City, Taiwan, who is conducting research on “Recycling Electric Arc Furnace Dust of Taiwan’s Steelmaking Industry,” from September 2005-March 2006;
Nusrat Rajabov, who heads the Department of Physics, Mathematics, Chemical and Geological Sciences at Tajik Academy of Sciences in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, who will carry out research and lecture on “The Model and Non-Model Two- and Three-Dimensional Volterra Type Integral Equation with Fixed Singularity and Super Singularity and its Applications,” from February-July 2006; and
Anatoliy Yefymenko, a research fellow in the Department of Research and Development, Institute of International Relations, Taras Shevchenko Kiev University, Kiev, Ukraine, whose research focuses on “Regulation of Joint Stock Companies’ Activities and Securities Circulation: A Comparative Legal Analysis of Ukrainian and U.S. Legislation,” from September 2005-May 2006.

This year, approximately 850 U.S. faculty and professionals and a similar number of foreign faculty and professionals received Fulbright grants. Begun in 1946, the Fulbright Scholar Program has awarded nearly 100,000 grants and is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, with additional funding from participating governments and host institutions.
