April 10, 2006--Cory Wickersham, 53, of Newark, died April 3, after a battle with cancer.
Mr. Wickersham worked as a housing carpenter at the University of Delaware for 23 years.
Born on March 24, 1953, in Mineola, Long Island, N.Y., he moved to Delaware in the fourth grade and graduated from Concord High School in Wilmington.
He was a respected student and teacher in several martial arts, including Kenpo, Arnis and Sayoc Kali. He had a passion for reading, mainly books on military strategy and elite special forces. For many years, he participated in Civil War re-enactments and collected Civil War artifacts.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" (Robbins) Wickersham; and his son, Corwin Wickersham IV of Newark; his mother, Juanita Wickersham; his sister and brother-in-law, Deborah W. Fox and Thomas C. Fox; and his nieces, Andrea Fox and Stephanie Fox Smithwick and her husband, Brian Smithwick.
A memorial service was held April 8 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Newark, 420 Willa Rd., Newark.
