Poster competition to complement social justice lecture

4:53 p.m., April 12, 2006--The first lecture in the Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies distinguished lecture series will be accompanied by a student poster competition.

The April 17 lecture is “The Travels of a T-Shirt--Social Justice in the Global Economy.” Posters submitted should analyze a particular phase in the life of a T-shirt and develop a strategy for improving the social and/or environmental impacts of that segment of the journey.

Posters will be evaluated on originality, identification of the problem, which serves as the background for the idea, social or environmental impact of the proposed idea, and ability to convey a convincing argument.

There will be first-, second- and third-place winners. First and second place will be presented a monetary award. All students are invited to participate.

In addition to the competition and lecture, a small question and answer session with the author will be held from 3:30-5:30 p.m., Monday, April 17 in the Williamson Room of the Perkins Student Center.

To participate in the student poster competition, the following information must be submitted via e-mail to Hye-Shin Kim, associate professor, [hskim@udel.edu] no later than Sunday, April 30:

  • Completed presenter information form; and
  • Two-page abstract (single- or double-spaced) of the poster topic.

The contest is co-sponsored by the Office of the Provost and the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy.
