April 4, 2006--Lt. John P.E. Murphy, 36, of Ellicott City, Md., died March 30.
Lt. Murphy received four degrees from the University of Delaware: bachelor's degrees in chemistry and biology in 1991, a bachelor's degree in nursing in 1995, and a master's degree in nursing in 2002. While on the campus, he was active in the University's Emergency Care Unit.
He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, stationed recently at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, where he was a nurse at the naval hospital.
Lt. Murphy is survived by his parents, Janice and Joseph Murphy; his sister, Kara Murphy; aunt and uncles, Barbara Finnerty, Anthony Finnerty and John Murphy; and four cousins.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, April 4, and from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, April 5, at Harry H. Witzke's Family Funeral Home Inc., 4112 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, Md. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 6, at the Church of the Resurrection in Ellicott City.
