'Fashioning Social Responsibility' lecture May 2

2 p.m., April 25, 2006--UD's Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies will host the second lecture in its “Fashioning Social Responsibility” lecture series at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 2, in Clayton Hall.

The featured speaker will be Dusty Kidd, vice president of compliance at Nike Inc. His lecture, “Supply Chain Responsibility--A Look into the Future,” will address Nike's response to allegations that it used sweatshop labor to manufacture its products overseas.

“Once described by Simon Zadek, the CEO of UK-based Accountability, as the 'poster child for irresponsibility,' Nike has become a leader in social responsibility,” according to Marsha Dickson, professor and chairperson of the Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies at UD. “Mr. Kidd will review the factors driving Nike's business process and corporate responsibility work and how that work is likely to change in the future.”

The series is cosponsored by the Office of the Provost and the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy. The lecture is free and open to the public.
