Fashion and Apparel Studies lecture series set

4:51 p.m., April 12, 2006--UD's Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies will host its spring distinguished speaker lecture series, “Fashioning Social Responsibility,” beginning at 7 p.m., Monday, April 17, in Clayton Hall.

The first lecture will feature Pietra Rivoli, professor of finance and international business at Georgetown University. Her lecture, “The Travels of a T-Shirt--Social Justice in the Global Economy,” will track the production of a T-shirt to demonstrate the opportunities and challenges of the global marketplace.

UD students are invited to take part in a student poster competition in conjunction with the first lecture in the series. For more information, e-mail [hskim@udel.edu].

The second lecture is set for 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 2, in Clayton Hall and will feature Dusty Kidd, vice president of compliance at Nike Inc. His lecture, “Supply Chain Responsibility--A Look into the Future,” will discuss Nike's response to allegations that it used sweatshop labor to manufacture its products overseas.

Both lectures are cosponsored by the Office of the Provost and the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy. The lectures are free and open to the public.
