UD cross country teams compete in regional meet

10:51 a.m., Nov. 15, 2004--The University of Delaware men's cross country team finished in 15th place and the women’s team in 19th place at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic regional meet held Saturday at Penn State.

The UD men were led by sophomore P.J. Meany, who finished 60th in the 10-kilometer race in 32:24. Senior Matt Harrell finished 89th in 33:12, sophomore Tyler Mayforth 103rd in 33.44 and sophomore Peter Kane 110th in 33:53.

Also, junior Kevin DuPrey finished 122nd in 34:33, sophomore Kyle Schmid 143rd in 35:33 and senior Jason Gordon 145th in 35:52.

The UD women were paced by freshman Colleen O'Brien, who came in 34th in the six-kilometer race in 22:21. Senior Ashley Olsen finished 118th in 24:28, senior Kate Klim 119th in 24:29 and junior Allison Behrle 134th in 25:06.

Also, sophomore Leslie Wason finished 136th in 25:16, junior Brenda Greene 137th in 25:17 and senior Mary Martini 144th in 25:52.

Georgetown University won the men's title and West Virginia University won the women’s title.

Both UD teams will be in action Saturday, Nov. 20, at Van Cortlandt State Park in New York City. The men will compete in the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes in America (IC4A) championships and the women in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships.
