UD women’s soccer fights for CAA berth

UD goalkeeper Bonnie Mills
9:48 a.m., Oct. 29, 2004--The University of Delaware women’s soccer team fell 2-0 to James Madison University in an important Colonial Athletic Association game played Thursday night in Harrisonburg, Va.

With the loss, the Fightin’ Blue Hens fell to 9-5-3 overall and 4-3-1 in the CAA, where they are tied for the sixth place with Old Dominion University.

Because only six teams will be invited to the conference championship tournament, Saturday night’s regular season finale at George Mason University takes on added importance for the Hens. George Mason is 9-6-3 overall and 4-2-2 in the conference.

Old Dominion, which is 8-7-2 overall, will close its regular season with a game at the University of North Carolina Wilmington on Saturday afternoon.

The College of William and Mary leads the CAA at 5-1-2, followed by Hofstra University and Virginia Commonwealth University at 5-3, George Mason and James Madison at 4-2-2 and UD and Old Dominion at 4-3-1.

The first round of the CAA championship tournament will be played on Tuesday, Nov. 2, with the semifinals and finals Friday through Sunday, Nov. 5-7.

In Thursday’s loss, Annie Lowry scored goals in each half for James Madison.

Shannon Alger and Mary Beth Creed had four shots each for the Hens. UD goalkeeper Bonnie Mills made nine saves.
