UD women’s basketball defeats Loyola 63-49

9:05 a.m., Nov. 23, 2004--The University of Delaware women’s basketball team opened the season with a victory, defeating Loyola College of Maryland 63-49 on Sunday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Sports/Convocation Center.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens were led by senior forward Tiara Malcom, who had 17 points and eight rebounds.

Also for the Hens, senior Tiffany Young had 10 points and five rebounds, senior Julie Sailer had 10 points and four assists and sophomore Tyresa Smith had 10 points and six steals.

UD took control of the game early, scoring the first nine points and eventually building a 21-5 lead.

UD will travel to Georgetown University for a game at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 27.
