James Madison ends UD volleyball streak

9:40 a.m., Oct. 11, 2004--The University of Delaware volleyball team saw its eight-match winning streak snapped in a 3-1 Colonial Athletic Association loss to James Madison University on Saturday in Harrisonburg, Va.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens are now 15-4 overall and 4-1 in the CAA. The Hens will continue conference play with a game against George Mason University at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 15, at Barbara Viera Court in the Carpenter Sports Building.

Against James Madison, the Hens were led by Colleen Walsh, who had 17 kills and two blocks. Valerie Murphy had 15 kills and seven blocks, and Sarah Engle had 14 kills. Allison Lutz had 51 assists, and Taylor Govaars had a team-high 18 digs.

The loss followed a 3-1 CAA victory over Virginia Commonwealth University on Friday in Richmond, Va.

In the victory, Murphy had 17 kills, hit .517 and had six block assists. Walsh and Nicole Stuka had 12 kills each.

Engle had nine kills and 11 digs, Govaars had 23 digs and Lutz had 45 assists. Niecy Taylor had four kills, four blocks and three block assists.
