UD volleyball team extends winning streak

12:03 p.m., Oct. 6, 2004--The University of Delaware volleyball team extended its winning streak to seven with a 3-1 victory over Villanova University on Tuesday night at Barbara Viera Court in the Carpenter Sports Building.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens defeated Villanova 30-22, 28-30, 30-26, 33-31 to improve to 14-3 on the season. The Hens have yet to be beaten on home court.

UD’s Colleen Walsh led the team with 21 kills and three blocks, while Valerie Murphy had 18 kills and three blocks and Sarah Engle had 13 kills and 12 digs.

Allison Lutz recorded 53 assists and four service aces, Taylor Govaars led the team with 17 digs, and Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week Niecy Taylor had nine blocks.

UD will travel to Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond for a Colonial Athletic Association game at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 8. They will then visit Harrisonburg for another conference game against James Madison University at 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 9.

Head Coach Bonnie Kenny’s Hens will return to Barbara Viera Court for conference games against George Mason University on Friday, Oct. 15, and Towson University on Saturday, Oct. 16.

UD is tied with Towson atop the CAA standings with a record of 3-0.
