Hen swimming teams split meet with Drexel 10:54 a.m., Nov. 15, 2004--The University of Delaware swimming and diving teams split a Colonial Athletic Association meet against Drexel University on Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia, with the womens team winning 150-91 and the mens team losing 143-86. Four members of the UD women's team were double winners. Sophomore Meredith Law won the 1,000 freestyle in 10:40.31 and the 500 freestyle in 5:11.08, while freshman Ellen Heinz won the 50 freestyle in 25.54 and the 100 freestyle in 55.01. Senior Kim Fields won the 200 individual medley in 2:15.95 and the 200 backstroke in 2:11.93, and senior Sara Stephens won the 200 butterfly in 2:09.15 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:27.49. The other individual event winner for the Fightin Blue Hens was junior Sarah Reed, who took the 200 freestyle in 1:58.13. The UD 400 medley relay team of senior Kristen Avioli , Heinz, Stephens and Reed won in 4:05.35. Sophomore Kendall Warren finished second in both the 200 freestyle and the 100 freestyle, Reed finished second in the 500 freestyle, Avioli finished second in the 200 backstroke and senior Sarah Bacewicz finished second in the 200 butterfly. UDs medley relay team of freshman Kristina Lamoreaux, sophomore Miranda Conrad, Bacewicz and freshman Laura Schultz also finished second. The UD men were led by sophomore Joe Virion, who won the 1,000 freestyle in 10:15.39, and freshman Adam Blomberg, who won the 200 butterfly in 2:00.98. The UD 400 freestyle relay team of freshman Andrew Zinn, junior Levan Beridze, sophomore Brendan Spencer and Blomberg also won in 3:12.81. Blomberg finished second in the 200 freestyle, Beridze finished second in the 50 freestyle and Virion finished second in the 500 freestyle. Freshman Jeff Falini finished second in both the 3-meter and the 1-meter diving events. Both UD teams will return to action at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 20, when they host Rider University at Harry Rawstrom Pool in the Carpenter Sports Building.
