Police launch ‘Operation Slow It Down’

3:39 p.m., Nov. 24, 2004--Delaware is currently experiencing a higher-than-usual death rate on its highways. If things do not change, there could be a record number of fatal collisions this year.

In an emergency effort to combat these highway deaths, Delaware's Office of Highway Safety (OHS) announced Nov. 19 the kickoff of "Operation Slow it Down."

This campaign will direct the efforts of police departments throughout the state to combat the four leading causes of traffic deaths, which are all associated with aggressive driving behavior.

In addition to adding extra police patrols to combat aggressive driving during the holiday season, the Newark Police Department will move its speed trailer and variable message sign throughout the City to spread the word to "Slow it Down!"
