UD’s Dame Edna performs Dec. 9-11

3:30 p.m., Nov. 24, 2004--Scott Mason, associate director of UD’s Student Centers, is yet again trading his suit and tie for a dress and earrings during his second official run as Dame Edna Everage, Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 9-11, at the Chapel Street Theatre.

Adopting the voice, mannerisms and over-the-top get-up of wig, gaudy glasses and glam gown, Mason will impersonate one of the greatest female impersonators of all time in four two-hour shows that will mark Chapel Street Player’s 70th anniversary.

Scheduled for 8 p.m., Dec. 9, 10 and 11, the performance will also have a 2 p.m. showing on Dec. 11. Special guests will include members of the audience at all four performances.

Mason, who writes and acts in plays and frequently volunteers at the Chapel Street Theatre, has appeared as Dame Edna at the community theatre before, where, he said, his act has been well-received.

Dame Edna Everage, a Broadway sensation who won a Tony Award in 2000, is known for, among other things, her larger-than-life monologues and instructive quips about the world.

The Chapel Street Theatre is located at 27 North Chapel St. Tickets to all Dame Edna shows are $10 at the door. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, and reservations will not be accepted. For more information, call (302) 368-2248.
