President Roselle honored for community service 11:52 a.m., Nov. 30, 2004--UD President David P. Roselle and E. Norman Veasey, former chief justice of the Delaware Supreme Court and a member of UDs Board of Trustees from 1975-92, were awarded the third annual Dr. James Tilton Distinguished Service Award on Nov. 19 at the University and Whist Club in Wilmington. The award is named for the revolutionary war hero and first surgeon general of the United States Army and the first president of the Medical Society of Delaware. This distinguished award honors leaders in the community who have excelled in their careers and who also have recognized the importance of giving back to the community, Doug Ingerson, chairperson of the Tilton Award Committee and a member of the University and Whist Clubs Board of Governors, said. In addition to their many career achievements, recipients of the award also have worked to make Delaware a better place for all of us. Robert V.A. Harra Jr., president and chief operating officer of Wilmington Trust Co., introduced Roselle to the audience of more than 100 persons, including many UD alumni and friends. Past recipients of the Tilton Award include Katherine L. Esterly, chairperson of Christiana Care Health Services’ department of pediatrics; Peter C. Morrow, executive director of the Longwood Foundation and former manger of DuPont global charitable-giving program; and Colm F. Connolly, United States attorney for the district of Delaware.
