John Byrne, Distinguished Professor of Public Policy and director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy, was quoted in a Nov. 1 U.S. News and World Report story concerning presidential politics and the quest to reduce dependence on foreign oil. It is “one of the hardest things you can ask a president to do and it's why the problem has festered for so long," Byrne said.

Cynthia L. Paris, assistant professor of individual and family studies, was quoted in an Oct. 26 Washington Post story on kindergarten. "The stream of our knowledge base of how young children learn has never been stronger [but] the political stream has come in and said we have to standardize all approaches because this is the way to guarantee the outcome," Paris said.

Lysette Hall, instructor in foreign languages and literatures, was quoted in an Oct. 25 Fox News story on how American culture is popular in France despite political strains between the nations.

Linda Gottfredson, professor of education, was quoted in an Oct. 24 New York Times political column concerning the Intelligence Quotients of President George W. Bush and Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in an Oct. 24 Albany (N.Y.) Times Union on the impact of laws drafted after the stock market crash and the Great Depression. Elson also was quoted in an Oct. 21 Washington Post story on the Walt Disney Co. trial in Delaware Court of Chancery and in an Oct. 20 San Francisco Chronicle story on ousted PeopleSoft Chief Executive Officer Craig Conway.

Ben Yagoda, professor of English, wrote a column on double standards in the Oct. 24 Philadelphia Inquirer.

David W. Smith, associate professor of biological sciences and baseball statistician, was quoted in an Oct. 23 News Journal story on how Major League Baseball has recovered from the 1994 strike.

Joseph Pika, professor of political sciences and international relations, and James R. Soles, Alumni Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Political Sciences and International Relations, were quoted in Oct. 23 News Journal stories on the Delaware gubernatorial race.

Philip Broadbridge, chairperson of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, was featured Oct. 18 on WDEL-AM for a symposium on problems during the 2000 election related to the mathematics of voting.

Valerie Hans, professor of sociology and criminal justice, and Benjamin Fleury-Steiner, assistant professor of sociology and criminal justice, were featured Oct. 13 on WDEL-AM. They discussed the issue of the juvenile death penalty, which was heard by the U.S. Supreme Court.
