Delaware’s Bonnie Kenny is CAA Co-Coach of Year

9:09 a.m., Nov. 23, 2004--University of Delaware Volleyball Head Coach Bonnie Kenny has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Co-Coach of the Year, sharing the honor with Fran Kalafer of Hofstra University.

In addition, four Fightin’ Blue Hens were named to All-CAA teams. Valerie Murphy was named first team All-CAA, Taylor Govaars was named second team All-CAA, and both Allison Lutz and Colleen Walsh were named to the CAA All-Rookie team.

Kenny led UD to its best record since 1997, as the Hens went 23-9 and reached the conference tournament championship game where they fell 3-0 to Towson University. The team tied the school record for most consecutive home wins with nine and broke the record for most service aces in a match with 30.

Murphy, a senior, led the team in kills this season with 436, fifth best in UD history. She had 1,265 kills in her career, sixth best in school history.

Govaars, also a senior, led the team in digs with 636 this season, third best in UD history. She had 1,630 digs in her career, third best in school history.

Walsh, a freshman, was a three-time CAA Rookie of the Week. She was third on the team in kills with 332 and had 64 blocks. She had nine service aces in a game against Howard University, second all-time at UD for aces in a single match.

Lutz, also a freshman, was a CAA Rookie of the Week. She had 1,353 assists this season, a freshman record and fifth best performance in UD history.
