Talk on children and chimps Nov. 8

3:04 p.m., Oct. 29, 2004--Michael Tomasello, director of the Department of Comparative and Developmental Psychology at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Germany, will give a talk on the thought processes of children and chimpanzees, at 4 p.m., Monday, Nov. 8, in 109 Willard Hall.

Tomasello is noted for his research on processes of social cognition, social learning and communication from developmental, comparative and cultural perspectives. He specializes in language and its acquisition in human children ages 1-4 and in great apes.

Tomasello's talk is based on video clips of his experimental work with human children and with chimps showing the similarities and differences in the way they think.

Sponsored by the School of Education and the program in cognitive science, the lecture is free and open to the public.
