Legal nurse consultant program honored

10:47 a.m., Oct. 5, 2004--The Mid-Atlantic Region of the University Continuing Education Association (UCEA) has selected UD’s Legal Nurse Consultant Certificate Program to receive an Award of Excellence. The award will be presented during the Mid-Atlantic Region UCEA Annual Conference Thursday, Oct. 7, in Rehoboth Beach.

Designed for experienced registered nurses (RNs) interested in broadening their career paths, the certificate program builds on their nursing expertise to allow them to serve as liaisons between the legal and the health-care communities. The certificate can be completed part-time on weekends in one year.

Legal nurse consultants work in independent practice and are employed by law firms, insurance companies, government agencies and risk management departments. They provide professional services, including medical case review, records analysis, compilation of medically related litigation materials and collaboration with attorneys on medical-legal issues.

Applicants for the program must be registered nurses with at least three years’ nursing experience and have proof of a current license and documentation of their nursing experience.

To earn the certificate at UD, students admitted to the program must successfully complete eight required courses.
