Cello recital Nov. 1

Larry Stomberg, new assistant professor of music
9:53 a.m., Oct. 29, 2004--UD’s Department of Music presents new faculty member Lawrence Stomberg in a cello recital with Julie Nishimura, piano, at 8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 1, in the Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building.

The program will feature Leos Janacek’s Pohadka; J. S. Bach’s Suite No. 2, in D Minor, for Unaccompanied Cello; Roger Sessions’ Six Pieces for Violoncello; and Johannes Brahms’ Sonata in E minor for Piano and Violoncello, Op. 38.

Stomberg enjoys a wide-ranging musical career as chamber musician, soloist, orchestral player and teacher. A founding member of several chamber ensembles, including the piano trios Trilogy and the Johannes Trio and the mixed ensemble Brightmusic, he is in demand as soloist and chamber musician across the country. In 2000, he released a debut compact disc of solo contemporary music entitled The American Cello.

Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and $3 for students. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at the Trabant University Center or Bob Carpenter Center box offices.
