Blue & Gold Club holiday happenings

1:30 p.m., Nov. 3, 2004--The Blue & Gold Club is getting geared up for special holiday and seasonal festivities for all ages and also offers goodies and holiday fare to go.

The popular Wild Game Wine Dinner will be held from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 11, featuring curried-roasted pheasant bisque with fennel; wild baby greens with grilled beets, caramelized almonds, sun-dried cranberries and sherry vinaigrette; strawberry-kiwi sorbet; sliced loin of venison with apricot stuffing served with wild mushroom demi-glace; poached pear stuffed with white chocolate mousse and drizzled with raspberry sauce, paired with a specially-selected wine selection option. The dinner alone is $27.50; with wine the cost is $37.50.

Chef’s Tableside Dinners, prepared as you watch, will be featured the weekend of Friday and Saturday, Nov. 12 and 13, with a choice of veal chanterelle with fingerling potatoes and roasted asparagus for $18.95 or shrimp, crab and scallop carbonara fettuccini with asparagus for $19.95.

The Feast of Festive Finery, will be held from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 9, and will precede PTTP’s performance of Twelfth Night and UD vs. Fairfield women’s basketball game. Featuring sweet potato soup with nutmeg and maple syrup; autumn greens with sliced pears, toasted pecans and cranberry vinaigrette; roast turkey and braised beef brisket from the carving station; pan-seared salmon with tomato orange marmalade sauce; smoked whitefish salad; candied root vegetables; fried potato pancakes; applesauce; risotto rice cakes; and assorted holiday desserts, the meal costs $18.50 for adults and $9.50 children, ages 5-11.

Other special dinner highlights include Thursday Senior Nights (some are planned around events on campus), 5-8 p.m., Nov. 4 and 18 and Dec. 2 and 16; and Friday and Saturday Fireside Candlelight Dinners (some are planned before events on campus), Nov. 5, 6, 19, 20 and Dec. 3, 10, 17 and 18.

Children will especially enjoy Brunch with Santa from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 5, with a visit from Mr. And Mrs. Claus at 12:30 p.m.

The whole family can get in the holiday spirit at the gingerbread house decorating class from 6-8 p.m., Monday, Dec. 13. The cost is $15 per person, including all supplies and a demonstration by Blue & Gold Club staff. Kits are available for $12.50 by contacting the club office.

Holiday Treats to Go! is another service provided by the Blue & Gold Club. Pies, desserts, the traditional Buche de Noel (available in December), hors d’oeuvres, main and vegetable dishes are all available. Thursday, Nov. 18, is the deadline for ordering for Thanksgiving, with pickup by 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 24. Thursday, Dec. 16, is the deadline for ordering for December holidays, with pickup by 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 23.

Don’t forget Tuesdays with half-price nachos featured in the Tavern.
