Art symposium set Nov. 6

3:48 p.m., Oct. 21, 2004--An afternoon art symposium, “The Personal Political Art of Nanette Carter and Romare Bearden,” will be held from 2-5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 6, in the Trabant Theatre in the Trabant University Center.

The symposium, which will be moderated by Amalia Amaki, University Museums curator, will feature guest speakers Nannette Carter, artist and curator and director of the National Center of African American Artists; Barry Gaither, artist; Sharon Pruitt, art historian; and Emma Amos, artist and professor of art at Rutgers University.

The panel of guest speakers will explore the political statements made by the art created by Nanette Carter and Romare Bearden, and Carter will give a firsthand account of how she strives to make pointedly political statements through her works of art.

The free symposium is sponsored by University Museums and is open to the public. A reception will follow the program in the Old College exhibition galleries. For more information, call (302) 831-8037.
