DCT partners with National Highway Institute 9:58 a.m., Oct. 8, 2004--The Delaware Center for Transportation (DCT) has established a partnership with the National Highway Institute (NHI) to promote coordination of training and education for the transportation workforce. NHI, a training arm of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), provides leadership and resources for the development and delivery of training and education programs to improve the quality of the nations highway systems. Ardeshir Faghri, DCT director and professor of civil and environmental engineering, said the University of Delaware is one of only a few schools in the nation to be selected for this type of partnership. DCT is housed in Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UD. DCT will work with the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT), FHWAs division office in Delaware and FHWAs Resource Center in Baltimore to deliver NHI training and to assess training needs in Delaware. The partnership is a logical outgrowth of our role as the research and education arm of DelDOT, Faghri said. It also complements the activities of our T2 and Engineering Outreach programs, which serve as a technology transfer and training resource for Delawares local and state government transportation agencies. Larry Klepner, T2 Program coordinator, said the NHI-DCT Training Partnership will include development, delivery and evaluation of NHI courses and training programs.
