Employee Challenge campaign makes strides

2:36 p.m., Oct. 19, 2004--Five hundred sixty-nine employees have participated thus far in the Center for the Arts’ fundraising effort, either through direct gifts to the center or through gifts to other areas of the University (indirect gifts), which have been matched by UD with a gift to the Center for the Arts.

The total amount of direct gifts and the match attributable to both direct and indirect gifts through the employee campaign is now close to $4 million, Kevin O’Brien, associate vice president for University development, announced today. To date, more than $25 million has been raised for the new center.

Center for the Arts

Launched in June, the campaign stipulated that gifts made by employees and retirees in support of any University program or department would be matched on a one-to-one basis and that employee gifts directly in support of CFA would be matched two-to-one, with matches to benefit the center--the University’s current highest priority project.

Besides raising money for CFA, according to President David P. Roselle, the primary goal of the matching program is to foster a sense of ownership for the center among all UD employees and retirees.

The match covers both one-time gifts and those made through the campus payroll deduction program, and there are no limits on the dollar amount that will be matched.

All employees--anyone who receives a regular University of Delaware paycheck--are eligible to participate in the matching gift campaign and contributions may be made by check, credit card or payroll deduction. To contribute, employees can use the gift designation card they received in connection with the annual employee campaign or they can make a contribution online at [www.udel.edu/employeecampaign].

Employee contributions can be directed to any program or department or to CFA, where there are a number of selected naming opportunities.
