Robert L. Snowberger
 

June 23, 2005--Robert L. Snowberger, 82, a lifelong resident of Wilmington, died at home on May 20 after a long illness.

Mr. Snowberger earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Delaware in 1949, and he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

A graduate of A.I. du Pont High School and an all-state football player, he served with distinction in the U.S. Army during World War II, participating in the Normandy Invasion at Omaha Beach on D-Day. He was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic action against an "outnumbering enemy force" in Germany, April 6, 1945.

After graduating from UD, he worked for the DuPont Co. in advertising. Taking an early retirement, he became an independent manufacturer's representative and was actively involved in many entrepreneurial ventures. An avid golfer, he was a long-standing member of the Wilmington Country Club.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marcia Broadway Snowberger; son, Robert F. Snowberger of Wilmington; two daughters, Ann S. McCune of Wilmington and Robin B. Swenarton and her husband, John T. Swenarton of Stonington, Conn.; his sister, Nancy Pleasants of Wilmington; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held June 20 at Chandler Funeral Home in Sharpley.
