UD-Lehigh football opener is sold out

11:30 a.m., Sept. 2, 2005--The University of Delaware football team’s season opener to be played against Lehigh University on Tubby Raymond Field in Delaware Stadium at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, is sold out.

The final tickets were sold on Tuesday afternoon, marking the earliest UD has ever sold out the stadium for a Fightin’ Blue Hens football game.

UD has sold more than 11,000 season tickets at 22,000-seat Delaware Stadium, which is a record number.

UD is ranked No. 10 and Lehigh, which is favored to win the Patriot League, is ranked No. 14 in the Sports Network’s preseason NCAA Division I-AA poll.

The Hens, under the direction of fourth-year Head Coach K.C. Keeler, participated in their second and final scrimmage of the preseason on Thursday afternoon at Delaware Stadium.

Keeler said he was pleased with the effort. “We were happy with the way our guys performed today,” he said. “We got some stuff done that we needed to work on. Today was mostly situational work. We tried to put some of our younger players in situations that they may not normally see and they did well.”

Senior quarterback Sonny Riccio had a strong performance in limited action. He fired a seven-yard touchdown pass to redshirt freshman wide receiver Aaron Love, who held on to the ball despite a big defensive hit, and connected with freshman wide receiver Mark Duncan for several big gains.

Backup quarterbacks Ryan Carty and Jarryd Moyer also saw action in the scrimmage.

Other highlights were a 39-yard field goal by freshman kicker Zach Hobby and a 75-yard interception return for a touchdown by junior cornerback Rashaad Woodard.
