Sarah Dodge Chirnside
 

June 23, 2005--Sarah "Sally" Dodge Chirnside, 82, of Wilmington, died in her sleep after a brief illness in her home at Forwood Manor on Oct. 25, 2004.

Mrs. Chirnside earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Delaware in 1946 after attending Wells College for one year. At UD, she acted in E-52 Theatre productions.

She was active in sports and clubs throughout her life. She worked with children with handicaps at the A.I. duPont Institute and was a reading tutor and mentor with the A.I. duPont School District for many years.

Mrs. Chirnside and her family were among the first members of St. Albans Episcopal Church in Wilmington,and she remained active at St. Albans in a variety of ways, including teaching Sunday school. She was a member of the DuPont Country Club and the "Dirt Daubers" Garden Club.

She was married for 57 years to UD alumnus Albert Chirnside, who died March 3, 2005.

Mrs. Chirnside is survived by her son, Robert, and his wife, Dr. Anastasia Chirnside, and their two children, Nate and Katie, of Port Deposit, Md.; and her daughter, Laura L. Shuster, and her husband, Charles, and their two daughters, Ali and Kelly, of Jakarta, Indonesia.

A memorial service was held Nov. 20, 2004, at St. Albans Episcopal Church in Wilmington.
