Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in an Aug. 2 Bloomberg news service story on new Office Depot rules concerning retention of directors and in an Aug. 1 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette story on family dominated corporations that treat chief executive officer positions as heirlooms. "The bar has been significantly raised by governance reforms and the idea that there's a stewardship for public capital," Elson said, adding that in the future, family members in line for top spots "will have to make a much more compelling case that they are right for the position. Elson also was quoted in a July 29 Reuters news service story on politicians joining boards of directors. John Sawyer, chairperson of the Department of Business Administration in the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, was quoted in an Aug. 2 News Journal story on a Disney Institute management program in Georgetown that attracted 200 people. Sawyer said seminars are important in providing managers an opportunity to refocus and refresh. Clinton Tymes, director of the Small Business Development Center in the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, was quoted in an Aug. 1 News Journal story on the need for small business owners to take vacations. "You're not only burnt out, but it's good to just step away," Tymes said. "Things start to suffer. You don't spend as much time with family, spouses, kids." Ed Whereat, program coordinator in the College of Marine Studies, was featured in an Aug. 1 WHYY-TV Delaware Tonight segment on efforts to monitor harmful algal blooms in the states inland bays. The broadcast also included comments by Cathy Skelley, assistant director of residence life, concerning underage drinking in the state. Jonathan Lewis, senior psychologist with the UD Center for Counseling and Student Development, was quoted in a July 31 Ladies Home Journal online story offering tips to parents of college-bound freshmen. When students call home too often for even the smallest of problems, Lewis said, "This is the time parents have to learn to step back. Be reassuring, but tell your student, 'This is your dilemma, not mine.'" James Butkiewicz, professor of economics, was quoted in July 31 Wilkes-Barre (Pa.) Times Leader story on the coming of slots to local race tracks. Robert Dyer, associate professor of animal and food sciences, was quoted in a July 31 News Journal story on the Delaware State Fair.
