Joel Best, chairperson of the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice, was quoted in a May 3 Los Angeles Times story about California freeway shootings. Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a May 3 Newsday story on a whistle blower letter concerning the corporate environment at Arrow Electronics. Elson also was quoted in a May 2 Associated Press story concerning Goldman Sachs and the New York Stock Exchange. Valerie Hans, professor of criminal justice, was quoted in a May 1 Philadelphia Inquirer article about the ejection of a juror from a case in U.S. District Court. Thomas Kaminski, associate professor of health and exercise sciences, was quoted in an April 30 News Journal story on the potential risks of heading soccer balls. James Butkiewicz, professor of economics, was quoted in an April 30 News Journal story on plans by MBNA to link with a bank in Mexico. Murray Johnston, professor of chemistry and biochemistry, was featured in an April 30 News Journal story on air pollution in Wilmington. Ralph Begleiter, Edward and Elizabeth Goodman Rosenberg Professor of Communication and Distinguished Journalist in Residence at UD, was featured April 29 on the National Public Radio program All Things Considered. He discussed the release of photographs of the flag-draped coffins of American soldiers by the Pentagon as a result of action he took in the courts. David Legates, director of the UD Center for Climatic Research, was featured in an April 22 Science magazine article concerning a court battle over global warming. Legates is skeptical of claims that there is a connection between human induced greenhouse gases and global warming. ALUMNI Matt Nagy, former UD quarterback now starring with the Georgia Force in the Arena Football League, was featured in the May 1 Lancaster (Pa.) Sunday News. Mike Pegues, former UD basketball star, was featured in an April 30 Washington Post story about professional basketball in Argentina, where he is now playing.
