Alvin H. Green
 

June 23, 2005--Alvin H. Green, 86, of Wilmington, died March 15 at Shipley Manor.

Mr. Green graduated from Chester High School in 1937 and, in 1942, received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Delaware, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.

Mr. Green was an engineer at the All American Engineering Co. in Delaware and Gantries Inc. of Malvern, Pa., until his retirement in 1985. Mr. Green also owned and operated Green's Service Station, Car Wash and Parking Lot in Chester, Pa., for 32 years and taught at Williamson Trade School.

He was a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corp, 73rd Bombardment Wing, 498th Bomb Group, 875th Squad during World War II in the Pacific Theatre, flying B-29's.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lura (Frye) Green. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Dorothy (Eachus) Peterson Green; a stepdaughter, Sandra Peterson Jereb of Chadds Ford, Pa.; a stepson, E. Michael Peterson of Lewisville, N.C.; three grandchildren, Marcus E. Jereb, Bryan D. Jereb and Alexis Peterson; and a great-grandson, Emmett M. Jereb.

A memorial service was held March 19 at Shipley Manor Health Center in Wilmington.
