Food critic lecture, book-signing set Oct. 19

Steven Shaw
4:33 p.m., Oct. 13, 2005--Steven Shaw, the award-winning food critic and founder of the popular culinary web site, [www.eGullet.org], will visit UD on Wednesday, Oct. 19, to lecture and sign copies of his new book, Turning the Tables: Restaurants from the Inside Out.

Shaw will begin his visit with a meet-and-greet and book-signing from 6-6:30 p.m., in 007 Willard Hall Education Building. At 7:15 p.m., he will give a lecture and a "behind-the-scenes" peek at the restaurant business, and after the presentation he will hold another book-signing session.

Shaw, who is known for his entertaining and down-to-earth approach to restaurants, food and wine, will address such topics as how to get VIP treatment in even the swankiest restaurants, how to know whether a review is credible or not, and how to “read” a restaurant from its menu to its décor, in order to determine the best place for any occasion without gambling time or money.

Shaw’s book, which has received favorable reviews in several prestigious magazines and newspapers, takes readers on a thoughtful and loving journey through some of the most well-known restaurants in the U.S. Billed as a “must-read” for anyone who enjoys food, eats out or appreciates the finer points of living well, Turning the Tables gives readers a chance to tour some of the busiest kitchens with an expert raconteur.

The free event, which is sponsored by UD’s Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management, is open to the public. For more information, call (302) 831-6747.
