UD women’s tennis earns 300th victory

9:49 a.m., Sept. 30, 2004--The University of Delaware women’s tennis team defeated St. Joseph’s University 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Delaware Field House courts to notch the 300th victory in the history of the program. The Fightin’ Blue Hens are now 300-193 since 1973, the team’s first season.

Susan Pollack, Sari Shuster and Katie Miller led the Hens to victory on Wednesday. Pollack defeated Nicole Morrison 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Shuster defeated Michelle Savage 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Miller defeated Dina DiGiacomo 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 at No. 4 singles.

Pollack and Shuster teamed for an 8-2 win over Morrison and Jessica Swanderski at No. 1 doubles, and Miller teamed with Brittany Barsky for an 8-1 win over Savage and Erika Guers at No. 2 doubles.

Also picking up singles victories for the Hens were Jamie deGraffenreid at No. 3 singles and Stefanie Riddle at No. 6 singles.

Pollack and Perlow each improved to 9-0 on the season while deGraffenreid improved to 6-0 and Miller to 5-0.

UD (5-0) will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 5, when the Hens host Villanova University.
