Special events welcome students

3:38 p.m., Aug. 27, 2004--The fall semester is off and running with activities galore for new and returning students to enjoy and get in the swing of college life at UD.

First Night At UD: Saturday, Aug. 28

From 10 p.m.-1 a.m., the Office of Residence Life is hosting several activities at the Trabant University Center. Casino Night will take place in Multipurpose Room B; arts and crafts will be in offered in Multipurpose Room C; and students can learn about leadership opportunities in residence life and try their hands at tie-dyeing, sponsored by S.O.S. (Support Group for Victims of Sexual Offense), in Multipurpose Room A. A dance party will be held in the Trabant Parking Garage.

Campus Breakout: Sunday, Aug. 29

Damian the Hypnotist offers a novel approach to hypnotism geared to young adults from 8:45-9:45 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the Trabant University Center.

Three stand-up comedians perform at different campus locations. Pete Domenick, from the New York City comedy circuit, performs from 8:45-9:45 p.m. in the Bacchus Theatre of the Perkins Student Center. Joe Matarese, also from the New York City comedy circuit, performs from 10-11 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the Trabant University Center. Jim Florentine, voice of Special Ed and Bobby Fletcher and the creator of prank phone calls, is sponsored by the Student Center Programming Advisory Board (SCPAB) and will perform at midnight in the Multipurpose Room of the Trabant University Center. Because of limited seating, tickets are needed for the Florentine show. Ticket information is available at an SCPAB info table or at [www.scpab.com].

Thrills and chills will be featured on a Ghost Tour & History from 9-10:30 p.m. and 10:30-midnight on The Green, beginning on the steps of Old College.

From 8:45-10:45 p.m., students can enjoy a Dive-in Movie on a huge outdoor screen while floating on inner tubes in the UD Pool.

Julian Velard & the A Band, from the Big Apple, entertain with modern music from 10-11:30 p.m. in the Bacchus Theatre of the Perkins Student Center.

Lester (he does balloon designs) and Susan (she does body paint), UD traditions, will be on hand from 8:45 p.m.-midnight at the Food Court in the Trabant University Center.

From 9-10 p.m., Dining Services hosts Foods from Across Campus, a free sampling of the foods available at UD, in the Scrounge of the Perkins Student Center.

Free mocktails and table sports, including billiards, table tennis and foosball, will be available all night in the Hen Zone of the Perkins Student Center.

The Just Udo It! Express will shuttle students around campus from 8 p.m.-midnight.

Student Activities Night: Monday, Aug. 30

Fall Student Activities Night will be held from 7-9 p.m. in two locations. The Trabant University Center will feature more than 200 registered student organizations and other programs, some offering giveaways, and the Carpenter Sports Building will feature sports and recreation groups such as club sports, intramural programs, fitness programs and cheerleading.
