Womens self-defense classes offered 11:05 a.m., Aug. 31, 2004--To increase campus safety, UDs Department of Public Safety is offering Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) classes during fall semester. A self-defense program designed expressly for women, the 15-hour RAD course teaches strategies to avoid sexual assaults and rapes. Techniques are designed for women of average conditioning and strength who are interested in learning effective means for physical self-protection. The free program, which is offered to all female full- or part-time UD students, faculty and staff, is taught by certified instructors and is endorsed by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators. The course is taught in a friendly atmosphere and includes awareness and risk-reduction strategies and hands-on instruction in techniques that can be used when threatened. Simulations give participants a chance to test their skills on officers dressed in padded equipment. The fall 2004 RAD class schedule is listed below. Basic RAD
