Gabriel Prokofiev interview set on WVUD

10:50 a.m., Sept. 27, 2004--Gabriel Prokofiev, grandson of the world-famed composer, Sergei Prokofiev, and himself a composer, will be interviewed by Marian Peleski, one of the hosts of WVUD’s classical music program, "Fine Tuning." The program will be aired from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 29.

Prokofiev, who has written contemporary, popular music in Great Britain, usually using a pseudonym, has composed his first classical piece String Quartet No. 1, performed by the Elysian Quartet and released on Non-Stop Records in Great Britain. The quartet also will be played during the program.

A series of coincidences brought about the interview, Peleski said. “I first heard of Gabriel Prokofiev listening to public radio and became interested in him. I mentioned this to Chris Rewa, who broadcasts “Roots,” the program before mine, and she happened to have friends who knew his business manager in Great Britain. She contacted them, who contacted the business manager, who in turn is helping me set up a live interview. It’s taken a team effort to bring this about.”

WVUD is located at 91.3 on the FM dial.
