Alum competes in U.S. Olympic time trials tonight

4:30 p.m., July 12, 2004--Mike DiGennaro, former UD cross country star who won several honors during his UD career, will be competing tonight in 3,000 meter steeplechase semifinal in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials Track and Field Competition in Sacramento, Cal.

The event is scheduled for 7:55 p.m. Pacific Coast time and will be carried locally on the USA cable network (channel 40 on Comcast Cable in New Castle County) from 10 p.m.-1 a.m.

On Sept. 23, 2000, DiFGennaro set a new UD men’s cross record in the five-mile run with a time of 24:57 to finish 22nd overall at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis.

UD men’s 2000 cross country honors for DiGennaro included Alumni Association Team MVP Award, Lehigh Invitational Champion, Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week (Sept. 9, 2000), Top Griak Invitational Finisher (22nd place), Delaware Invitational No. 2 Champion, Top 10 America East Championship Finisher (3rd), Top NCAA District II Finisher (20th) and IC4A Championship Champion (All-East).
